History:
Pretoria, today called Tshwane, was founded in 1855 and is the administrative capital of the Republic of South Africa. It was named after Commandant-General Andries Pretorius, the white hero of Blood River, and since 1910 the city has been associated with the administration and drafting of apartheid laws.
After 1994 Pretoria has transformed itself and is now a very cosmopolitan city with people from all over the country living here. |
